Let's start off with some Geraniums on the front porch. Used Ladybug Vortex Potting Soil. Of course the Geraniums look best the first two months or so. They're still here in July, but have faded. Should have fed them more Miracle Grow I guess.
Gerbera Daisies & Gardenias can be found in a flower bed along the brick wall facing south. The Gerberas bloom from spring thru early winter. They do die down during overnight freezes (which happen every other year in Houston) or rare snow dustings such as happened on 12-08-17. They also suffer in the 95 degree plus heat of Houston summers, but perk up during the several consecutive days of tropical downpours which happen every 3 weeks or so each summer in Houston.
Zinnias thrive in the summer heat. Burpee's White Wedding Zinnias are my favorite. Something about a bed full of white flowers that pleases the soul. I planted seeds in mid summer 2017 and enjoyed the white flowers. Then lo and behold, seeds from the 2017 planting started coming up in March 2018. I transplanted the "volunteers" into the show bed outside our living room window and had another round of beautiful zinnias free of charge so to speak. I will mention this about the second generation. There were quite a few "mutants" in the mix … maybe a quarter of the children had pure white flowers … the others where yellow … or were dwarf in size … some even had yellow fuzz (no petals) for flowers. How strange!
