I ordered 24 new daylily varieties (24 plants) from Smokey's Gardens in Michigan on 12-13-21. The daylilies arrived on 05-22-22.
So far 18 varieties have bloomed ... soon to be joined by Purple Oddity in the next week or so. That makes 19 out of 25 varieties in the first year ... not bad! Rather than two fans of Petal Pusher, Smokey's shipped one fan of Eye Popper and one fan of Petal Pusher. No complaints on this end getting one more daylily variety!
One marketing comment about Smokey's. Most if not all daylily sellers ship daylilies with 2 fans. So if you order one daylily plant, you get two fans automatically. With Schreiner's the 2 fans are normally interconnected ... sometimes you get 3 fans per plant. Amador gives you two separate fans for each daylily ordered. Smokey's shows a standard quantity of 2 plants representing not 4 fans but just 2 fans. Do daylilies with more than one connected fan do better initially than ones with disconnected fans? I wonder ... what is your opinion?
By the way, I am pleased with all the varieties that bloomed this year ... as well as the ones that did not. Here are some preliminary comments based on their first two months in my garden.
