I recently updated my unofficial daylily count … we have 56 varieties of daylilies and 300 daylilies in total.  Since I've mixed the varieties up, the proof in the pudding (which daylily is which variety) will be when each daylily blooms!

May 20th may have been the peak for 2020 … see slide show below … note the daylilies with two & three blooms per plant!

I have been taking pictures of the daylilies every morning since early March.  The same variety of daylily (could be the same plant) will look different (even same bloom) depending upon the following conditions when the picture is taken: sunlight versus cloudy day and time of day (colors most brilliant in morning; however, not all blooms are fully open in morning).  Just click on the upper left-hand corner of the slide show and enjoy!

Updated bloom history thru 07-08-20 showing date of first & last blooms.  Obvious reblooming dates also shown.  Date planted shown for daylilies acquired since the summer of 2019 & spring of 2020.  Will gradually add pictures so most slide shows should have at least 10 to 15 pics (unless say I have one or two plants which only bloomed for a day or two).

Stolen Treasure - my favorite daylily in 2020. What a prolific rebloomer!  Blooms are larger in May & early June with 4 petals.  When the summer heat kicks in, the blooms are smaller with 3 petals, 7 plants (planted 06-10-19), pink, midseason, dormant, large 7 inch flowers, Apr 26 - Jul 9, still blooming, 56 days with blooms so far

Erin Lea - favorite yellow daylily with ruffled petals, 8 plants, golden yellow, midseason, dormant, May 12 - Jul 5, rebloomed, 32 days with blooms so far 

Barbara Mitchell - 7 plants, pink, early midseason, semi-evergreen, my favorite pink daylily with the curved petals, Apr 28 - May 15, rebloom Jun 29 - Jul 09, 17 days with blooms, may have mixed Pewter Pink pics with Barbara Mitchell

Desert Flame - 17 plants, orange red, prolific rebloomer, midseason, dormant, May 13 - Jul 9, still blooming, 48 days with blooms so far

Lacy Doily - wife's favorite daylily, 3 plants (planted 02-19-20), pink, midseason, evergreen, small 3.5 inch flowers, Apr 24 - May 5, only 1 plant bloomed so far, Apr 24 - May 5, 5 days with blooms

South Street - 1 plant (planted 10-22-19), sturdy scape with lots of blooms, red, midseason, dormant, Apr 21 - Jun 17, rebloomed, 17 days with blooms ... not bad for just one plant!

Early Snow - 7 plants - favorite white daylily, early, rebloomed, dormant, large 7 inch flowers, May 2 - Jun 25, 24 days with blooms

Elegant Candy - prolific rebloomer though each bloom does pretty much look alike, easy to divide, 31 plants, pink, early midseason, dormant, smaller blooms, , Apr 24 - Jul 9, still blooming, 60 days with blooms so far

Majestic Move - a very pretty yellow daylily, sometimes have to prop up blooms due to weak scapes, 5 plants, yellow, midseason, dormant, May 9 - May 31, 13 days with blooms

Always Afternoon - another prolific rebloomer, 10 plants, purple, early, semi-evergreen, each bloom looks pretty much the same ... not much variation, lots of blooms though, Apr 5 - Jul 1, 48 days with blooms so far

Susan Pritchard Petit - interesting double daylily, 1 plant (planted 10-22-19), burgundy rose, midseason, semi-evergreen, 6 inch bloom, Jun 24 - Jul 9, second scape forming, 5 days with blooms so far

Elegant Explosion - reblooms in summer, 6 plants, bright gold, midseason late, dormant, May 12 - Jun 5, Jul 1 - still blooming, 26 days with blooms so far

Marque Moon, a very pretty ruffled daylily that doesn't seem to do too well in Houston, 11 plants, white with ruffled edge, midseason, dormant, May 23 - Jun 8, 6 days with blooms, not good for having 11 plants

Double Yellow, a gift from a friend, not sure of daylily's name, rather weak scape, there may be two or more blooms on each scape but the first bloom sucks the life out of the other buds, 1 plant, Jun 09 - Jun 19, 4 days with blooms 

Key to My Heart - 1 plant (planted 10-22-19), crimson with pale pink edge, well branched scape, early, evergreen, Jan 1, rebloomed May 19 - Jun 6, 13 days with blooms

Classic Edge - 1 plant (planted 10-22-19), orchid pink with raspberry eye, early midseason, evergreen, May 15 - May 24, 5 days with blooms

Sweet Tart - 2 plants, peach with greenish yellow throat, midseason late, dormant, May 14 - May 22, 2 days with blooms

Spiny Sea Urchin - 3 plants (planted 02-19-20), doesn't look like the daylily I ordered from K.van Bourgondien.  We'll see what they say when I show them these blooms.  Only 1 plant bloomed so far.  Still pretty though with the ruffles, Bought another 3 plants from Brecks (planted 05-13-20) Blooms much more to form. Spacecoast White Out - 1 plant (planted 10-22-19), white, early, semi-evergreen, Feb 23 to Mar 26, rebloomed May 16 - May 29, 7 days with blooms

Enchanted Forest - 2 plants (planted 05-13-20), yellow, early midseason, dormant, Jun 30, 1 day with blooms

Raspberry Suede - 3 plants, black raspberry, early midseason, dormant, smaller 5 inch flower, stunning color, doesn't rebloom, only one plant bloomed so far, May 2 - May 5, 2 days with blooms

Daylilies - comments from early spring 2020: Saw my first normal (not planted last fall) daylily bud emerge on 03-19-20 … an Earlybird Cardinal.  It takes about 10 to 14 days from the bloom stalk appearing to the first bloom opening.  Here are some pics from Jan - Mar.  You will note a stray daylily bloom or two.  These daylilies which came from Breck's were planted on 10-22-19.  Ordered 30 more daylilies from K.van Bourgondien which were planted on 02-19-20.  New daylilies doing just fine so far.  Saw my first K.van Bourgondien bud also on 03-19-20 …  I started my annual transplanting of daylilies on 03-22-20.  I moved some Funny Valentine, Desert Flame & Joan Senior to fill in holes in Bed 5 where only half of the 25 Breck's daylilies planted on 11-09-19 made it through the winter.  Those daylilies were alive when I planted them, but perhaps stayed in Breck's Ohio warehouse too long and were too weak to survive the winter … especially the dormant varieties such as Early Snow & Garden Show.
